Our Green Library Tours are a unique opportunity to explore the Fruitful Community Foundation's efforts to transform DeKalb County libraries into ecological safe zones. This initiative is part of the broader Fruitful Libraries Resolution, passed two and a half years ago-- a collaborative effort between RootsDown, young constituents, and DeKalb County. The goal is to transition all county libraries into hubs of sustainability and climate resilience. So far, we've helped transform 7 libraries into centers of regenerative practices and education, serving as vital resources for community engagement and learning.

On our tours, you'll see firsthand the exciting projects already underway. For example, in District 5, we partnered with Commissioner Merida Davis-Johnson to create five beautiful gardens with sustainable landscaping practices. In Clarkson Library and Chamblee Library, we collaborated with Commissioner Ted Terry to implement full model transitions. These libraries are located in Qualified Census Tracts (QCT), highlighting our focus on bringing ecological benefits to communities that need them most.

During the tours, participants will learn how these projects have engaged the community, promoted environmental awareness, and provided educational opportunities. You'll also hear success stories and testimonials from local residents and stakeholders who have experienced the positive impacts of these transformations. The Green Library Tours aim to inspire other communities to take similar steps toward climate action and sustainability. We want to encourage a sense of excitement and possibility for the future of our public spaces.
